Dr. Bethany Raines is an applied neuroscientist who helps innovators bring cutting-edge science into real-world technology and consumer-facing products. Her recent project involved working with a client to digitize Pain Reprocessing Therapy—a powerful, mind-body treatment for chronic pain that’s traditionally delivered in person.
Bringing this therapy to life as a digital product required not only technical skill, but also care, collaboration, and compliance. That’s why Dr. Raines and her team partnered with Technology Rivers—to create an app that could maintain the integrity of the treatment while making it more accessible to those who need it.

The Audio Transcription: Turning Complex Science into a Scalable Solution
I’m Dr. Bethany Raines, and I’m an applied neuroscientist. I work with clients who want to integrate cutting-edge neuroscience into products that can truly make a difference in people’s lives. One of my recent projects involved creating a digital application for Pain Reprocessing Therapy, a powerful and widely respected treatment for chronic pain.
This therapy had seen tremendous success in in-person settings. The challenge was figuring out how to digitize it—without losing its effectiveness. We wanted to preserve the “magic” of the treatment while making it more scalable and accessible through a self-guided app experience.
We needed a partner who understood not just software, but also the nuance of healthcare and patient experience. We spoke to many developer teams, but Technology Rivers stood out immediately. From the very first conversation, they weren’t just trying to quote us—they genuinely wanted to understand the mission and the science behind what we were doing.
What we appreciated most was their flexibility and willingness to grow with us. This wasn’t a project with a perfectly clear roadmap. It required experimentation, iteration, and adaptability. Other firms expected us to come with a tightly defined product spec, but Technology Rivers embraced the ambiguity. They felt more like a true partner than just a vendor.
Their background in healthcare tech, especially HIPAA compliance, gave us a lot of confidence. We knew they wouldn’t cut corners and that our users’ data—and our client’s reputation—would be protected throughout the process.
The entire team was approachable and excellent at communicating complex ideas in plain language. That’s rare. You don’t often find engineers who are both technically strong and great at collaboration and customer experience.
Over time, our initial vision for the product evolved significantly—and Technology Rivers adapted right alongside us. At no point did they push back or act like our shifting needs were a burden. Instead, they leaned in, helping us build something better than we originally imagined.
If you want to be successful in any digital product space, agility and iteration are key. Technology Rivers excels at both—and they do it with the kind of soft skills that keep projects (and teams) moving forward.
I absolutely encourage anyone building a healthtech or science-driven product to work with them. Your psychological health will thank you.
